The method

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a treatment method from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Fine needles are placed at defined points along the so-called meridians. The aim is to relieve pain and support the body's own regulatory ability.

Acupuncture as a self-pay service

For many other complaints, we offer acupuncture as an individual health service (IGeL) – with the same medical qualification and care as the insured service.

Why have acupuncture with us?

Dr Kochs and Dr Rode both hold the additional qualification in acupuncture from the North Rhine Medical Association. Dr Rode is also a member of the DÄGfA (German Medical Acupuncture Association). As specialists, we combine evidence-based diagnostics with the TCM method.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about acupuncture.

Does acupuncture hurt?

The needles used are extremely fine. Most patients feel the insertion as barely noticeable or a slight pulling sensation, not as painful.

How often do I need acupuncture?

Usually 10 to 15 sessions, generally twice a week.

Is acupuncture covered by health insurance?

Yes – German statutory health insurance covers acupuncture for knee osteoarthritis and chronic lower back pain.

Can I have acupuncture as a self-paying patient?

Yes. Self-pay treatment is possible regardless of whether an insured indication exists.

What is cupping?

In cupping, suction cups are placed on the skin to create negative pressure. This promotes circulation and can release muscle tension. We offer cupping as a complementary self-pay service.

What is trigger point acupuncture with electrical stimulation?

Acupuncture needles are placed precisely into painful muscle knots (trigger points) and additionally stimulated electrically, which can enhance the pain-relieving effect. This is also offered as a self-pay service.

How long does a session take?

The needles remain in place for about 30 minutes; the whole appointment takes a little longer including preparation.

Who performs the acupuncture?

Dr Andreas Kochs and Dr Henrik Rode, both with the additional qualification in acupuncture from the North Rhine Medical Association.
